B: Did he? But does he know how to use it?
A: He has no idea about machinery. It is just “Pearls cast before swine”!

猫に小判 / neko ni koban:
“Neko”, a cat would not know that value if she was given “Koban”, a Japanese ancient gold coin. In other words it is useless to give somebody a very valuable thing if this person don’t know what it is.

A similar English expression is “Pearls cast before swine".

B:  Terrific! Thank you. It will be worthless to give a plate to Mrs Kawaguchi, because she is not interested in China at all. Why don’t you give me the two plates instead?
